Capoeira Communities is an award winning social enterprise of Capoeira Instructors who deliver training in this unique Brazilian art form to children, young people and adults from every sector of the community. Our core focus is on personal development using the multi-disciplinary activities of Capoeiras' music, history, etiquette and movement.
We work extensively in schools and have pioneered the professional delivery of Capoeira to hundreds of public and private sector organisations. Our participants include people of complex physical, behavioural and/or mental needs, prisoners, refugees, and travelling communities to name but a few. We offer regular classes, workshops and follow-on projects, as well as seminars and performances across the whole of the UK.
We are a branch of Cordo de Ouro UK Capoeira, based in Norwich, under Contra-Mestre Papa-Leguas and we welcome Instructors of other groups as part of our outreach team.

A Brief History
Capoeira Communities was originally set up in December 2004 as Learn Capoeira UK. This small company needed to be scaled up due to an increasing demand for our workshops, resulting in the creation of a formal structure. In April 2006, Capoeira Communities was registered as a company limited by guarantee.
As LCUK, director Jamie Lynch received first place out of hundreds of entrants in the 2005 Shell LiveWIRE awards for Norfolk, and went on to win the audience nomination from the seven counties of East Anglia.
Capocoms received recognition for its work in 2006, receiving 1st place in the Princes Trust NatWest Enterprise Awards for both Norwich and Norfolk, going on to win the Eastern Region award. In 2007 we were awarded joint second place in the entire UK by HRH Prince Charles at the Barbican Centre in London.
We have been lucky enough to have the support of start-up funds from the Princes Trust in 2004, managed funds from the Arts Council in 2005, and expanded to become Capoeira Communities with help from the European Social Fund, through Acorn grants in 2007.
In the busy five years since we started, we have taught over 32,000 individuals over 700 workshop days and currently teach around 2500 children per year during curriculum time.
